Description

Zugspitze is Germany’s highest mountain. It is nearly 3000 meters a.s.l. high. Zugspitze is 2962m above sea level. The route to the Zugspitze is somewhat demanding, both technically and conditionally, but still easy enough to be climbed by the average mountain tourist. So it is an ideal trip for people who have some experience in trekking in the low mountains and want to try something more. At the Zugspitze they will have the opportunity to climb their first via ferrata, glacial route, rock ridge, and also to face a height of about 3000 meters above sea level for the first time. The route is not very difficult at any stage, and none of the sections – neither ferrata nor glacier nor ridge, nor being at altitude – is very long. There is also no demanding descent, which is often hard for for beginners climbing other mountains. At the top of Zugspitze there is a cable car station. The cable car which will take us down to the area near the parking lot. Zugspitze expedition is therefore a perfect route for those who would like to experience their first alpine adventure. Also advanced mountaineers will certainly not be bored on this route, and the breathtaking views will probably make many want to return to the Zugspitze region again.

Trip program

Day 1 – arrival by own transport to Grainau in Germany at the foot of the Zugspitze. Possibility of shared car ride with the expedition leader, departing from Krakow early in the morning. Overnight in tents at the campsite.

Day 2 – early morning departure from the parking lot in Grainau in the direction of the Zugspitze. The trail first leads through the famous picturesque Höllentalklamm Gorge, then through a varied terrain: first trekking, then the traverse via an easy via via ferrata, then an easy, but often requiring the use of crampons, Höllentalferner glacier section  then a scenic, though not difficult (rate B/C on scale from A to F) via ferrata and in the upper section a rock ridge, to finally reach the top, where we meet civilization in the form of a shelter, a cable car and numerous tourists. In the event of bad or uncertain (especially in the event of a risk of storm) weather or increased technical difficulties (due to the melting of the glacier or damage to the via ferrata), on the German route, the ascent to the summit will take place via the Austrian route through the Wiener Neustädter Hütte, which also runs largely via via ferrata. Then we take the cable car down to Lake Eibsee and then take the cable car to the parking area (in the case of the Austrian route, we take the cable car to the parking area). The entire summit push should take approximately 8-10 hours (6-7 hours in the case of the Austrian route). Then transfer to camping for overnight stay.

Day 3 – morning tour of the town and surrounding area, then returning home. For those willing, the opportunity to return to Poland with the expedition leaders.
