Description
What are via ferratas? Their character reflects the translation of the name into English – iron paths. They are tourist trails of technical character, carried out in the rocky terrain, which without artificial facilities would be available only for climbers. Thanks to steel ropes, steps and other elements attached to the rock, as well as belaying, such routes can also be climbed by less skilled tourists.
Via ferratas located in Czech Republic are just gaining popularity. Most of them were built only recently, and new routes are being built every year. The most interesting via ferratas can be found in the town of Děčin in western Czech Republic, in the area called Czech Switzerland. But in many other, sometimes surprising and unusual places, there are via ferratas as well. Routes of various character and difficulty level await us in the Czech Republic.

Trip program
Day 1 – around noon a meeting in the town of Tabor in the Czech Republic (for those willing to travel with trip leaders, departure from Krakow early in the morning). Climbing the first warm-up via ferrata v Táboře. It is not difficult – it was rated B on a scale from A to F. Climbing it, not counting the short ascent to the start point and returning to the car, takes about 20 minutes. The via ferrata offers a view of the town of Tabor and the river Lužnice. Then drive about 25km to Bechyně with the via ferrata of the same name. It is much more difficult, rated D / E. We go back and forth, the whole climb lasts about an hour. Although the via ferrata does not run high, there is some adrenaline – the route leads along the river and if you fall your feet will be wet. There is also a rope bridge there. After climbing the via ferrata, approx. 3-hour drive to Děčin. Overnight in tents at the campsite.
Day 2 – we will spend this day entirely on the rocks in Děčin, a picturesque town in the area called Czech Switzerland. All routes – and there are as many as 16 of them – were built on the western wall of Pastỳřska Stena, about 100 m high sandstone rock wall, located on the opposite side of the Elbe than the city. Via ferratas have different levels of difficulty from A/B to D. They are very varied and there are plenty of attractions such as vertical ladders, buckles, rope bridge, rods protruding from the rock, but also rock sections only with a steel rope as a belay. The routes are 150 to 170 meters long. All routes end at the summit of Pastỳřska Stena and they are all connected by one factor: high exposure and a lot of air underfoot. From each of the via ferratas there is a beautiful view of the historic center of the town and the Děčín castle. We spend the evening in Děčin. Overnight in tents at the campsite.
Day 3 – depending on the time and weather as well as the level of fatigue of the group after the previous day: the possibility of climbing one or two more via ferratas in Děčin in the morning, or going to Srbska Kamenice, located 15 km from Děčin, where we can climb via ferrata Kavárnička, an interesting trail, short but having as many as four variants, with difficulties from B to D, or immediately set off on the road, which will take us less than 2 hours and will lead us to the town of Semily, located only 36 km from the border crossing Harrachov – Jakuszyce. In Semily, we can climb a total of three via ferrata routes on the Vodní Brana rock. We will climb the red route with difficulty C+ and – who is willing and will feel up to it – the purple route with difficulty, depending on the chosen variant, D+ or E. We will descend each time using the simplest blue via ferrata, starting right at the end of the red route , and with the purple route connected by a rope bridge. For people tired of the blue ferrata, it will give you the opportunity to go up and down, because it is not difficult – its difficulty is B/C – and at the same time two-way. After the activities on the Vodní Brana rock, we will say goodbye. People who want to return to Poland with the leaders of the expedition can take them by car.
