At the turn of August and September, we went to Kazbek for the third time this season. And this time the Caucasus did not disappoint us. The weather was beautiful. Maybe even too beautiful, because we also had the opportunity to observe negative phenomena related to climate warming. The lack of fresh snow cover on the Plateau and the need to camp a little lower was a relatively minor problem. However, we also saw a huge avalanche of seracs that hit the path to the top of Kazbek on August 31. Luckily, no one from our trip was harmed. One team was below the avalanche, the other above. We are glad that we could have made some contribution (especially our guide Kaxi Tsiklauri) to the rescue operation, which was professionally carried out by the rescuers of the Bezpieczby Kazbek rescue tem.

One team of three our expedition members stood on the top of Kazbek before the avalanche hit. The second team, after an avalanche, was forced to withdraw several hundred meters from the summit for safety reasons. Congratulations to all participants.

We invite everyone to Kazbek in the 2022 season.
