Description
A trip to Triglav is a fantactic idea for those who want to experience a mountain adventure, but do not have time for a long trip. Climbing Triglav is also an opportunity to climb one of the most famous peaks in Europe. To reach the peak you do not need to use crampons, ice axes or other specialist climbing equipment. This makes Triglav a great destination for those who are just at the beginning of their adventure with mountains higher than 2000 meters. The ascent on Triglav is also a good training before climbing four-thousanders of Alps or five-thousanders of Caucasus.
It is possible to extend the trip with Via Ferrata of the Julian Alps
Triglav is the highest peak of the Julian Alps, and also the highest peak of Slovenia. For this reason Triglav is found in the coat of arms and flag of this country. It rises between the Vrata Valley in the north and the Velo Polje Valley in the south. From the north side falls over a 1000-meter wall. The exploration of the wall played an important role in the development of Slovenian mountaineering. There are remains of a glacier near the summit. The name Triglav is associated with medieval Slavic beliefs. It was believed that on the top of the mountain the seat of the powerful Trojan, a pagan deity of water, land and underground, was located. Triglav was recognized as a symbol of Slavic spirit, which is why in 1889 a priest from a nearby village, Jakob Aljaž bought the top of the mountain so that he was in Slovenian hands. Shortly thereafter, he built on the top a cylindrical metal tower serving as a shelter from the storm. The tower, called Aljažev stolp, has remained there till nowadays. The priest Aljaž, was also the inictator of builging the refuge Triglavski Dom (Triglav House) on mountain’s slopes, where we will sleep during the trip.
